At the 2012 Mobile Excellence Awards, Disney/ABC Television Group's Digital Media team took home the prestigious Industry Star Award for overall achievement, as well as the Best Content Extension Made for Mobile for Disney Channel's "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally Appisode" App.

Disney/ABC Television Group (DATG) was honored with the Industry Star, a legacy award created from the inception of the MEAs and one of the highest honors given to a company which has defined groundbreaking and innovative technologies that have changed the future of mobile, or which has broken industry records. DATG was the first to make full ad supported episodes of ABC programming available next day on the iPad with the ABC Player app. The ABC Player was recently named the sixth most downloaded free iPad app of all time, and has expanded to iPhone and iPod touch. The team also developed, with the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, the groundbreaking, Emmy-winning Oscars App, which provided fans unparalleled access to the 83rd and 84th Academy Awards. Most recently, DATG's Digital Media team launched WATCH for Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney XD, which enables pay TV subscribers, beginning with Comcast, to access network shows live on their iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

The Best Content Extension Made for Mobile Award honors the best content developed for mobile as an extension or companion program/activity to a traditional TV show or series, fiction or non-fiction, or film, fiction or non-fiction. The "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally Appisode" App brings viewing, learning and interaction together into one fun-filled iPad experience. Fans 2-7 years of age can touch, tap, shake, swipe, drag and talk through an entire episode of "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse." The activities presented in the "Appisode" include valuable counting, critical thinking and problem solving skills.

"I couldn't be prouder of our team, which is always pushing the boundaries of innovation to develop digital products that deliver Disney/ABC Television content to fans in new and exciting ways," said Albert Cheng, EVP and Chief Product Officer, Digital Media, Disney/ABC Television Group. "It always feels good to be recognized by your peers, and we appreciate what the MEA is doing to encourage companies in the mobile space."

The Mobile Excellence Awards represents all walks of the mobile ecosystem from start-ups, studios, content providers, entertainment, entities, sports, apps and handsets, brands and more. The awards were announced Wednesday, October 17 at Digital Hollywood at the Ritz Carlton, Marina Del Rey, CA. http://www.mobilexawards.com.
