THE NEIGHBORS, ABC
Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken writes original songs for tonight's episode of the ABC comedy THE NEIGHBORS. In the episode titled "Sing Like a Larry Bird", after seeing a Broadway musical, Larry decides to create one of his own.
The Bird-Kersees ignore the Weavers' concerns and decide to go to into the city to see a Broadway show. Inspired by the experience, Larry decides to put on a musical of his own, which goes well until Dick literally missteps. Instead of going to Marty and Debbie for help (as they have done many times before), the Bird-Kersees risk exposing their true identities when they call 9-1-1.
The episode airs tonight, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13 (8:30-9:00 p.m., ET) on ABC.
Menken is best known for his scores for films produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. His scores for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Pocahontas have each won him two Academy Awards. He also composed the scores for The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Home on the Range, The Shaggy Dog, Enchanted, and most recently, Tangled. Menken has collaborated on several occasions with lyricists including Howard Ashman, Tim Rice, Glenn Slater, Judy Rothman, and Stephen Schwartz.
With eight Academy Award wins (four each for Best Original Score and Best Original Song), Menken is the second most Oscarised winner in a music category after AlfrEd Newman, who has nine Oscars.
