The critically acclaimed drama, WHITECHAPEL, returns to BBC AMERICA's Dramaville with three distinctive, dark and chilling crime stories. From the producers of Downton Abbey, the new season will find Detective Inspector Joseph Chandler (Rupert Penry-Jones), Detective Sergeant Miles (Phil Davis) and Edward Buchan (Steve Pemberton) spreading their investigations beyond the boundaries of East London's Whitechapel, as they peel back layers of the East End's most gruesome history. In season one, the intrepid team tracked down a blood-thirsty Jack the Ripper copycat and faced off against the gangster brutality of a new generation of Krays. But now they are faced with a whole new set of challenges...
DI Chandler and DS Miles are still based in Whitechapel, with Ed Buchan joining the unit as their historical advisor. They have rescued a huge crime archive, a vast but chaotic collection of files and papers beneath the incident room. Buchan begins eagerly sorting this treasure trove of primary sources. Chandler is convinced crimes of the past hold the key to solving murders in the present and it's not long before they have their first case - the race is on to find the killer.
Whitechapel remains a dark and scary place, laden with villainy and foreboding. The East End will once again provide fertile ground for murder, body-snatching, poisoning and grisly discoveries, as the team's present day investigations echo three hundred years of crimes committed in the city's darkest recesses.
