CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY Wins Dupont-Columbia Journalism Award

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY won an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Journalism Award for a series of reports from inside Syria by CBS News Foreign Correspondent Clarissa Ward, it was announced today by Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism.

During Ward's first trip to Syria in November 2011, she entered the country alone, posing as a tourist. With a small camera, she captured a rare, first-hand look inside the revolution, meeting with anti-government activists and members of the Free Syrian Army to report on their struggle to defend themselves against the Syrian government's brutal and deadly crackdown. In February 2012, Ward and producer Ben Plesser were the first American journalists to report live from inside Syria with the rebels. Their reports offered extraordinary insight into the lives of the rebels fighting in Syria's uprising and the suffering of the people of Idlib. Over the past year, Ward has traveled to Syria six times to report on the violence that Syria's dictator does not want the world to see.
