Deadline reports that TV Land will soon play host to a 'Cheers' reunion. Kirstie Alley and Rhea Perlman, co-stars of the long-running NBC comedy will be joining forces on a new Broadway-themed comedy pilot titled GIANT BABY for the cable network.
The project, created by Marco Pennette, will tell the story of "Madison “Maddie” Banks (Alley), a Broadway star who finds her life turned upside down when Arlo, her long-lost son, turns up looking to connect after his adopted mother has died." Perlman will portray Thelma, described as "Maddie’s long-suffering assistant and best friend, who encourages her boss to form a relationship with her son."
Keith Cox, TV Land’s EVP Development and Original Programming commented, “We’ve hit the jackpot getting Kirstie and Rhea back together. It’s a dream to work with such talented comedic actors like these ladies and create a show for them that’s funny and has interesting characters — Giant Baby hits all of those notes.”
The actresses recently appeared together on the ABC pilot The Manzanis. Perlman also portrayed herself in a cameo appearance on Alley's Showtime docu-series 'Fat Actress' in 2006.
Perlman is a Broadway vet who appeared in The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife as well as the off-Broadway production of Love, Loss, and What I Wore. She is best known for her role as Carla Tortelli on Cheers, for which she won four Emmy Awards. Alley can currently be seen on TV as a contestant on ABC's Dancing With the Stars: All Stars.
