New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan tells CBS EVENING NEWS Anchor and Managing Editor Scott Pelley that the College of Cardinals will look for a pope able to "articulate the truths of the faith" to succeed Pope Benedict XVI. The interview will be broadcast tonight, Feb. 11 on the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY (6:30-7:00 PM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.
In tonight's interview, Dolan also tells Pelley of being surprised by the pope's resignation and his views on the future of the Catholic Church. An excerpt is below. PELLEY: Would you expect that College of Cardinals to give us a pope very similar to the man who appointed them and elected him? DOLAN: I think Catholics in general and certainly the College of Cardinals would look for a man who's able to articulate the truths of the faith ... in a compelling way - in a compelling, credible way - a man of deep piety, a man who knows the church universal and the needs of the people throughout the world. Those would be some of the things I think that ... people would look for. Patricia Shevlin is the Executive Producer of the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY.
