Cops from Shooting at Sikh Temple in Wisconsin to Speak with Scott Pelley Tonight, 11/13

The hero cops who stopped the massacre at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin discuss the shooting in their first television interview tonight, Nov. 13, on the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY (6:30-7:00 PM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.

In tonight’s report, CBS News Correspondent Elaine Quijano speaks with Oak Creek Police Lieutenant Brian Murphy, who on Aug. 5 was the first officer to arrive after a gunman opened fire at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek, killing six people. The killer, Wade Michael Page, was just 30 yards away and armed with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

“That’s when he raised his gun, and we shot close to the same time,” Murphy tells Quijano. “Mine obviously missed, and his hit.”

Page shot Murphy 12 times. The next officer to arrive was Sam Lenda, the force’s best marksman, who shot and wounded Page from 60 yards away. Page then shot himself in the head.

“I confronted evil in the parking lot, and evil was not going to leave there,” Lenda tells Quijano.

Quijano’s report will also feature video of Lenda advancing on the gunman that has never been seen before publicly.
