David Alan Grier Joins CBS' BAD TEACHER Adaptation

According to The Hollywood Reporter, stage and screen star David Alan Grier has officially signed on for CBS' television adaptation of the 2011 film BAD TEACHER.

The movie, which starred Cameron Diaz, followed a recent divorcee who decides to become a teacher in order to land a new husband.

Grier will take on the role of the school's principal, a well-meaning but clueless man, originally played by John Michael Higgins.

The project comes from Hilary Winston (COMMUNITY) who will write the script and serve as executive producer. Original screenwriters Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky are also on board for the pilot.

David Alan Grier was nominated for a 2013 Grammy award for the cast recording of The Gershwins' "Porgy & Bess." In 2009/2010 Grier starred in David Mamet's acclaimed play "Race" opposite James Spader and Kerry Washington at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Broadway for which he received his second Tony Award-nomination. He was previously nominated for Best Featured Actor in a Musical and won the Theatre World Award for "The First," and drew acclaim for his stage performances in "Dreamgirls," "A Soldier's Play," and "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." His television work is highlighted by a turn as principal cast member on the Emmy Award-winning In Living Color (1990-1994) where he helped to create some of the show's most memorable characters; DAG (2000-2001); and Life with Bonnie (2003) which earned an Image and Golden Satellite nomination. Grier also created, wrote and executive produced a show for Comedy Central called Chocolate News (2008). In 2013, he will appear in We the Peeples, produced by Tyler Perry, opposite Kerry Washington and Craig Robinson. Grier received an MFA from the Yale School of Drama.
