Diana Rigg to Star in BBC's DR. WHO Next Season

According to TVLine.com, Diana Rigg will make a guest star appearance on the popular BBC drama series DR. WHO. Joining 'The Avengers' star on the show will be her real-life daughter, Rachael Stirling, whose TV credits include BBC's Women In Love and Tipping the Velvet. 

The upcoming episode is being filmed this week and will feature Dr. Who stars Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman. Rigg and Stirling are set to portray a local Yorkshire mother and daughter who share a "dark secret."

Commented Rigg on the upcoming role, “The first time Rachie and I will be working together is on an episode of Doctor Who specially written for us by Mark Gatiss. How lucky is that?”

Stirling added that the reason she has never worked alongside of her mother was, “because the offers have not been tempting, but when such a funny and original script comes through you know the time has come. Mark Gatiss has written a gift of a script and an on-screen relationship between Ma and I that is truly delicious."

Rigg won the 1994 Tony Award® for Best Actress in a Play for Medea. Other awards and nominations include the 1994 Drama Desk Award Outstanding Actress in a Play, Medea [nominee], 1975 Tony Award® Best Actress in a Play, The Misanthrope [nominee], 1975 Drama Desk Award Outstanding Actress in a Play, The Misanthrope [nominee] and the 1971 Tony Award® Best Actress in a Play, Abelard and Heloise [nominee].

Rigg’s film credits include On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, 1971′s The Hospital, the Hercule Poirot mystery Evil Under the Sun and The Painted Veil. On TV, she has received two Emmy nominations for her role as Emma Peel and won an award for the 1997 TV-movie Rebecca. She played the title role in 1981′s Hedda Gabler, starred in Bleak House and The Mrs. Bradley Mysteries and, was most recently featured in the BBC miniseries The Last King. She is also a Tony Award winner, among other stage accolades.
