In an interview with Indiewire, director Antoine Fuqua reveals that the highly-anticipated big screen adaptation of FOX's popular series '24' will not be made.
"Yeah, that's not happening. I don't think it's gonna happen at all, definitely not with me," Fuqua says of the long-rumored project. "I met with Kiefer [Sutherland], FOX wanted to do it, it was a matter of his schedule before he went off to do his new show ['Touch']."
The director hints that a breakdown in salary negotiations with Sutherland may have contributed to the demise of the film. "I don't think he was able to get a proper agreement with Fox. The time just passed, and I went off to go to what I was doing."
Fuqua's current projects include the boxing drama Southpaw as well as film biopics of MiLes Davis and Tupac Shakur.
'24' starred Sutherland as Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) agent Jack Bauer. Each 24-episode season covers 24 hours in the life of Bauer, using the real time method of narration. Premiering on November 6, 2001, the show spanned 192 episodes over eight seasons, with the series finale broadcast on May 24, 2010.
