Deadline reports that the FX network has ordered a drama series pilot to be titled TYRANT, from HOWARD GORDON and GIDEON RAFF, executive producers of 'Homeland' and 'Six Feet Under's Craig Wright. Wright will serve as showrunner if the project gets picked up to series. Production on is set to begin in spring of 2013.
According to the report, TYRANT will follow the story of "an unassuming American family drawn into the workings of a turbulent Middle Eastern nation." Said FX executive vice President Nick Grad, “The brilliant and wholly original concept just blew us all away. It’s pretty amazing when you read a script and can instantly imagine it becoming one of the best shows on television.”Bert Salke, president of Fox 21 who will be behind the project commented, “Tyrant is exactly the type of project we aim to do at Fox 21 – working with extremely talented writer/creators to create provocative material with big, breakout characters and themes."In September, the team of Gordon and Raff picked up two Emmy awards for their hit series Homeland including a best writing award shared with Gansa for the pilot and a best drama series award with the rest of the show’s producing team.
