First Teaser For AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN

One of TV's most-nominated dramas in both of its inaugural seasons at the Emmys and Golden Globes, FX's hit horror anthology series American Horror Story returns for its third season this October with a batch of wicked witch-themed new episodes under the subtitle COVEN and the first teaser trailer for S3 has arrived at long last.

A small white cat. An eerie, evocative "House Of The Rising Sun". Seven women levitating.

Oh, yeah - and someone stuck in the chimney.

That's the sights and sounds - and scares - on display in "Detention," as the first teaser trailer released for the new season is titled.

Also, the first episode of S3 is rumored to be titled "B*tchcraft". Witchin'!

According to recently revealed details, the third season will reportedly center on a modern-day coven as well as cover a number of historically-related cases of witchcraft and wizardry over the course of the largely New Orleans-set season, featuring a formidable assortment of fiercely talented leading ladies of stage and screen all the while.

Indeed, the third season of the series showcases a particularly spectacular collection of Broadway/Hollywood stars, making it a must-see for purveyors of fine female - and perhaps a few feline - performances.

Yes, even Patti LuPone as a purportedly Michelle Bachmann-esque right-wing Republican real-world witch!

Of course, LuPone previously appeared as a special guest on the Season Two finale of Murphy's hit FOX musical dramedy series GLEE. In discussing the social impact of Ryan Murphy's projects in my recent career-spanning conversation with Ms. LuPone, she revealed that she was a fan of his (just-cancelled) series The New Normal and went so far as to compare it to the edgy work of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, which was a predominate topic of our chat: "You know, I think Ryan is really political on THE NEW NORMAL. I don't know if he is as political on Glee and if he is political on AMERICAN HORROR STORY. I think that, probably, The New Normal is his most political show - now, I am talking about in the sense of the anger and frustration that is out there and holding a mirror to the hypocrisy of society, which I think he does brilliantly. And, don't you think that is Brecht & Weill?"
