GLEE PROJECT RUNDOWN: The Finalists Announced!

GLEE-PROJECT-RUNDOWN-The-Finalists-Announced-20010101

This week on THE GLEE PROJECT, the contestants were tested on their generosity. The homework assignment is "Lean On Me," and with only four hopefuls remaining, they're all trying to impress guest judge Kevin McHale by taking turns with the lead in the song.

Kevin chooses Lindsay as the winner of Glee's "magic comb" and a one-on-one tutoring session, prompting her to proclaim enthusiastically that "I didn't try to be perfect, but it was!"

My Chemical Romance's "Sing" will be the music video this week, and the cast will have to pretend to play an instrument during the video. This leads to the inclusion of several additional "mentors" - young students from schools without arts programs.

During the video shoot the contestants are supposed to showcase the students in line with this week's theme; most of them do so with a bit of direction in one way or another. So with no real standouts either positively or negatively, there's no bottom three this week. Instead, all four will perform for GLEE co-creator Ian Brennan as well as Ryan Murphy.

Up first is Alex, taking on "His Eye is on the Sparrow," which was sung at his father's funeral. He delivers a strong performance with both judges giving him a warm reception.

Next is Damian, who was assigned Sammy Davis Jr's "I've Gotta Be Me" and brings an energy that impresses the judges. Ian, in particular, says that he can see Damian working in the show as a freshman.

Lindsay sings WICKED's "Defying Gravity." (The show's original leading lady, Idina Menzel, will return to Glee for this upcoming season.) Although Lindsay gets positive feedback, "I've always kind of wanted to cut her, but I can't, because we need someone like her in this competition," Ryan says after Lindsay's left the stage.

"My Funny Valentine" is Samuel's selection, and while he receives little to no commentary on his actual performance, both Ian and Ryan are transfixed by the idea of having Samuel - and his biblical tattoos - play a Christian character on the show.

When the list is posted, it's an ecstatic Lindsay, Damian, Samuel and Alex who are left celebrating - with no one cut at all this week. Next week the contestants face what's sure to be the toughest week yet for the group: the finals.

From Ryan Murphy, the creator and Emmy® award-winning executive producer of "Glee," and executive producer of "Glee" Dante di Loreto, "The Glee Project" is a 10-episode competition series seeking to find the next star of "Glee" and will award one winner with the ultimate prize of a seven-episode role in season three of the hit FOX show. The series began with 12 extraordinarily talented individuals that were picked from thousands of entries, and an exhaustive nationwide and online talent search.

The series uncovers a unique group of artists from both professional and amateur backgrounds, proving every underdog has a fighting chance at stardom. Each week one contender is sent home through intensive rounds of singing, dancing and acting based on assignments. During the final ‘Last Chance Round,' the bottom three must perform for Ryan Murphy, casting director Robert Ulrich, and choreographer Zach Woodlee as they carefully assess which of them has what it takes to be one of the next new faces of the award-winning show.
