THE GLEE PROJECT contestants this week were assigned Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" as their homework assignment, with the challenge meant to test their "believability" factor - something that it seems from past evidence that some of them will struggle with. The guest judge for the homework assignment is Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina on GLEE and an original cast member of Spring Awakening), who chooses Hannah for her first homework assignment win and a one-on-one tutor session.
The cast will sing Paramore's "The Only Exception" without any choreography for this week's music video. During the recording session, Alex breaks down when he taps into the emotion of his father's death. "Hopefully, it comes across in my vocals," Alex adds, capitalizing on the moment.
For the video shoot Hannah struggles with pretending to be in love with Alex when her crush Damian sits directly across from her. Samuel's "look" - the one that Lindsay brings up bitterly every week - isn't working for him this time, while across from him Lindsay struggles with bringing her performance down a couple of notches.
At the end of the day Lindsay ends up in the bottom three for her inability to come across believably; Samuel for his lackluster performance in the music video; and Hannah for her middle-of-the-road acting this week.
First up to give a last chance performance for the judges is Hannah with Taylor Swift's "Back to December." She gets relatively warm feedback from the judges: no outright praise but no real negativity either.
Lindsay sings "Maybe This Time" from Cabaret, and while it seems like something that would be right up her alley, she misses a lot of notes and Glee's creator, Ryan Murphy, tells her that he "doesn't root for [Lindsay]...what we need is a heroine."
Singing Neon Trees' "Animal" is Samuel, but Ryan finds him unrelatable and says that he can't see him developing on the show. Considering Glee's lack of plot or character development as of late, it seems like a moot point for Ryan to keep bringing up story arcs for the characters...but that's what he claims he's basing his decisions on.
In the end, despite a win for the homework assignment, the contestant who packs her bags this week is Hannah. Still, the show "is definitely the best thing that's ever happened to me," she says tearfully in her exit video.
Next week, the top four - Damian, Samuel, Lindsay, and Alex - will kick off the episode with "Lean on Me" and what's sure to be even more drama on the road to a guest spot on GLEE.
