As first reported on TVGuide.com, GLEE executive producer Ryan Murphy has revealed that he is working with recording artist Barry Gibb on an upcoming episode of the hit Fox series which will pay tribute to The Bee Gees' 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack. The episode is set to air sometime in April.
Shared Ryan, "We've never done disco on the show, but I'm interested in the genius of The Bee Gees." When asked if any of the disco film's stars such as John Travolta may be making cameo appearances on the episode, Ryan replied, "Travolta and Cory Monteith [Finn] became close friends at a party when Cory told him he'd seen [the 1996 Travolta movie] Broken Arrow 20 times. Travolta sent him an autographed copy of the DVD. So maybe we'll have them dance in a Finn dream sequence."
The 1977 film 'Saturday Night Fever' told the story of a Brooklyn youth who feels his only chance to get somewhere is as the king of the disco floor. It starred John Travolta, Karen Lynn Gorney and Donna Pescow. The movie's original soundtrack featured music of The Bee Gees. In the United States, the album was certified 15x platinum and sold over 15 million copies. The album stayed atop the album charts for 24 straight weeks from January to July 1978, and stayed on Billboard's album charts for 120 weeks until March 1980.
