MTV and multi-platinum selling and Grammy(R) Award-winning group Green Day today announced a global partnership to debut new music from the first installment of the band's upcoming studio album trilogy, Green Day ¡Uno!, kicking off with the exclusive worldwide premiere of the new music video "Oh Love" across MTV's platforms in over 150 territories tonight, and the first televised performance of new music from the album during the "2012 MTV Video Music Awards" on Thursday, September 6 on MTV at 8:00pm ET/PT.

Taking the "2012 MTV Video Music Awards" stage for the fifth time, the band will rock audiences out of their seats when the show airs LIVE at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. Green Day joins previously announced performers Alicia Keys, who will premiere a brand new song from her upcoming album, and the British boy band phenoms, One Direction, who are first-time VMA performers and nominees, and P!nk, who will debut a new song from her upcoming sixth studio album with another memorable performance. The show will be hosted by Kevin Hart, the actor and comedian known for his sharp tongue and self-deprecating humor, who will leave no stone unturned as he roasts the world's biggest stars in music and entertainment.

"We're excited to perform on this year's 'MTV Video Music Awards'," said Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong. "MTV has continuously supported us during our career, and we can't think of a better place to play our first TV performance for Green Day ¡Uno!, Green Day ¡Dos!, Green Day ¡Tre!"

Prior to the VMAs, the band will appear on MTV channels around the world tonight at 7:49 p.m. ET to personally introduce and premiere their new music video "Oh Love" on-air before staying on for an additional 30-minute interview with MTV News' Sway Calloway to discuss the new album and reminisce about VMAs past on MTV.com during "MTV First: Green Day." The music video was directed by Samuel Bayer, a two-time VMA Moonman recipient for "Best Direction" for Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" in 2005 and Justin Timberlake's ""What Goes Around... Comes Around" in 2007.

Following the broadcast premiere, the music video for "Oh Love" will go into immediate rotation on MTV Hits and mtvU, as well as debut in AMTV the following morning and on MTV2's "120 Minutes" on Friday.

Green Day recently completed the recording of three albums - a trilogy entitled Green Day ¡Uno!, Green Day ¡Dos!, Green Day ¡Tre! - that will be released by Reprise Records on Tuesday, September 25; Tuesday, November 13 and Tuesday, January 13, 2013 respectively. The albums are the follow-up to the Grammy(R) Award-winning 21st Century Breakdown, and are being produced by the band's long-time producer Rob Cavallo. Green Day ¡Uno!, Green Day ¡Dos!, Green Day ¡Tre! was recorded in their hometown of Oakland, CA.

ABOUT Green Day

Green Day were kids from working-class backgrounds who came of age in the underground punk scene in Berkeley. Though they had already released two albums (1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours and Kerplunk), the band truly announced its arrival with 1994's Dookie, a dynamic blast of exuberant punk-pop that sold 15 million copies and earned the band its first Grammy(R) Award for Best Alternative Music Performance. Over the years, Green Day continued to top the charts with the subsequent studio albums Insomniac, Nimrod, and Warning, while entertaining millions of fans with their frenetic live shows. But it was their landmark 2004 album American Idiot that launched Green Day into the stratosphere. American Idiot debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart, spawned five hit singles, earned seven Grammy(R) nominations (winning two, including Best Rock Album), and raised the bar for modern rock and roll. In 2009, Green Day released 21st Century Breakdown, which won a 2010 Grammy(R) Award for Best Rock Album. It spawned two hit singles: the gold "Know Your Enemy," which was the first song ever to top Billboard's Rock, Alternative, and Mainstream Rock charts simultaneously, and the double-platinum "21 Guns," which earned them three 2009 MTV Video Music Awards including Best Rock Video. Green Day also took home an American Music Award for Favorite Alternative Rock Music Artist.

Later that year, Green Day collaborated with the Tony Award-winning director of Spring Awakening, Michael Mayer, for the stage musical American Idiot. The play bowed at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in September 2009 and set attendance records during its limited engagement. The play went on to Broadway and ran for a year at the St. James Theatre and won two Tony Awards. The North American Tour of the stage musical is currently touring North America and will launch in the United Kingdom later this year.
