EW.com reports that Green Day musician Billie Joe Armstrong will be joining the third season of NBC's THE VOICE as a mentor to Christina Aguilera's team.
In a statement, Armstrong commented that he is a huge fan of the singing competition, as is his family. He believes the show's popularity is due to the fact that, “it’s not molding artists, it’s just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover.”
The rocker began taping episodes of the upcoming season on Wednesday and says that working with Aguilera is “a lot of fun.”
Armstrong is one of many recent musicians who have signed on for a television talent series. Earlier this week it was announced that Mariah Carey will be a judge on the upcoming seaon of FOX's American Idol. The X Factor recently added pop stars Britney Spears and Demi Lovato to its juding panel.
The third season of THE VOICE will premiere on September 10. Cee-Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will join Aguilera as coaches on the show. Carson Daly hosts.
