It's another week and that means another elimination on American Idol, but tonight's is a little different - the second elimination of this week means that they're down to the top ten, and the top ten will tour with Idol this summer.
There's also another announcement this week: in a somewhat strange cross promotional move, fashion icon Tommy Hilfiger will be the "image consultant" for the singers. "I'm excited and I hope I can make a difference," Hilfiger says.
Unsurprisingly after his performance last night, Joshua Ledet is declared safe immediately. He's followed by Phillip Phillips and Skylar Laine; Elise Testone, though, lands in the bottom three.
After a performance from Disney export Demi Levato, three more are declared safe: Jessica Sanchez, Colton Dixon and Deandre Brackensick. That leaves Shannon Magrane in the bottom three, and three more performers awaiting their fate.
Daughtry debuts a single ("Out of My Head," from their album released in November), and the bottom three is completed by the addition of Erika Van Pelt, allowing Heejun Han and Hollie Cavanaugh to join the safe contestants.
Tonight, it's the end of the road for 16-year-old Shannon Magrane, as the judges decline to use their save for the teenager after a rough last chance performance. Shannon thanks her fans as she heads home, bidding a tearful goodbye. "You've been so loyal," she says.
Emmy Award-winning AMERICAN IDOL is created and executive produced by Simon Fuller, Founder, 19 Entertainment, a division of CKX, Inc.; and executive-produced by Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO, FremantleMedia North America, Inc.; Ken Warwick, Executive Producer, FremantleMedia North America, Inc.; and Nigel Lythgoe, President, Big Red 2 Entertainment.
