Deadline.com reports that Jerry O'Connell has joined the cast of a single comedy CBS pilot from Rob Greenberg. The actor joins previously announced cast members Tony Shalhoub, Chris Smith, and Kal Penn on the project from CBS TV Studios and the Tannenbaum Co.
According to the report, the pilot will tell the story of "a young guy (Smith) who finds camaraderie living among the more experienced guys he meets in a short-term rental complex, including Gil (Penn), Frank (Shalhoub), and Stuart (O'Connell)."
The show is set to begin filming at the end of this month.
O'Connel was reportedly wanted for the project from the beginning, but due to his commitment to MOCKINGBIRD LANE, the modern reboot of MUNSTERS, he was unavailable. NBC passed (for the second time) on LANE last week. The project is now officially dead.
Shalhoub was last seen on Broadway in the Tony Award winning revival of Lend Me a Tenor. The Emmy-winning actor starred in the long-running series MONK and appeared in Greg Daniels' comedy pilot Friday Night Dinner this past season.
Penn is known for his role portraying the character Dr. Lawrence Kutner on the television series House and the character Kumar Patel in the Harold and Kumar comedy films. He is also recognized for his performance in the critically acclaimed film The Namesake. The actors recent pilot for ABC, Prairie Dogs, was not picked up for a spot on the network's schedule.
