COUGAR TOWN star Josh Hopkins has just been cast in an upcoming comedy pilot for the NBC network, according to TVLine.com. The casting raises questions as to the future of the fledgling ABC comedy series.

Hopkins will star in the NBC pilot LADY FRIENDS, a comedy from Kari Lizer which tells the story of a lifetime friendship between two female best friends, Nicole (Andrea Anders) and Jen. The actor is set to portray Nicole's husband.

According to the report, NBC will have to recast Hopkin's role in the event that Cougar Town gets the greenlight for a fourth season. Bill Lawrence, co-creator of Cougar Town attempted to assure fans that his show will indeed be back next year, posting to his Twitter account, “the odds of Cougar Town coming back are the same, But if it’s a coin flip, I don’t want actors to be jobless/cashless… I want them to go out, make $$, then have to be recast because our show comes back. I still believe — promise.”
