As first reported on TVGuide.com, MTV is set to launch a new late night series titled THE NIKKI AND SARA SHOW, starring comedians Nikki Glaser and Sara Schaefer. The show will air weekly at 11:00 pm and is scheduled to premiere later this year.
Glaser and Schaefer are best known for their online podcast 'You Had to Be There.' Schaefer's credits include head blogger for NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon for which she received two Emmy Awards. Glaser made it to the semifinals of NBC's reality show 'Last Comic Standing.'
The new series will feature the two comedians doing stand up, performing in sketches and conducting interviews with 'peoole on the street' and celebrities. The show will be taped in the former Times Square home of MTV's Total Request Live.
David Janollari, MTV's head of programming commented, "We've been looking for the next comedic point of view, a personality that really speaks to the Millennial audience. We think we have something really special in The Nikki and Sarah Show, particularly the two remarkable comedic personalities that are both smart and hilarious."
He continued, "I think our audience is underserved in the 11 p.m. hour," he says. "We really want to be much more present in that hour. This provides a great way to cap off the night, a fun, really breezy and hilarious half-hour."
Janollari notes that the show will have great appeal to the cable network's huge female audience. "We have a huge core female fan base that watches MTV", he said. "We all talk about how Chelsea Handler has made such an incredible impact in the late night space. To find not just one but two terrific young women with such comedy skill and a point of view together in this one show, we think it will really speak to our female audience."
