TVGuide reports that Maulik Pancholy will not be returning to the NBC comedy WHITNEY for its sophomore season. Instead, the actor will reprise his role as Jack Donaghy's (Alec Baldwin) assistant Jonathan on the network's long-running series 30 ROCK.

On Whitney, Pancholy portrayed Neal, described as "Lily's (Zoe Lister-Jones) ex-fiance who realized he was gay towards the end of last season." In an interview with TVGuide, series star and creator Whitney Cummings explained, "Creatively the show is going more into a direction of Mad About You with these two central characters and their relationship and it's less of an ensemble show. It's hard to keep him integrated into the group now that he's broken up with Lily."

Pancholy is known for his recurring role as Sanjay on Showtime's Weeds. He also voiced the character Baljeet Rai on Phineas and Ferb.

Whitney's second season premieres Friday, October 19 at 8/7c.
