Academy Award winning actress Meryl Streep will narrate Pioneers of THIRTEEN's The '70s - Bold and Fearless, the second episode of a four-part series, airing tonight, January 31, 2013 at 9 p.m. on THIRTEEN.
The 90-minute documentary unearths rarely-seen clips drawn from THIRTEEN's rich archive, and features exciting music performances including musicians Al Green and Stevie Wonder from the weekly variety show Soul!; the first televised rock concerts, including a previously unreleased footage of The Allman Brothers; video art by pioneering artists Nam June Paik, Bill Viola, and William Wegman from The TV Lab; skits by comedians Albert Brooks, Chevy Chase, John Cleese, and Lily Tomlin; dance performances by Judith Jamison, Twyla Tharp and Mikhail Baryshnikov; and theatrical performances by then-emerging actors Meryl Streep, Christopher Lloyd, Sigourney Weaver, Samuel Jackson, James Earl Jones, and many others.
The '70s - Bold and Fearless also features clips of gavel-to-gavel coverage of the U.S. Senate Watergate hearings; the premiere broadcast of The MacNeil/Lehrer Report, which continues today as PBS NewsHour; the first public television bilingual Latino show Realidades; a controversial 12-hour documentary series An American Family; revealing the real-life soap opera of the Loud family; and a journalistic investigation about the FBI's involvement in bombing and arson, cancelled hours before the segment was scheduled to air due to pressure from the Bureau.
