In partnership with the NBCUniversal Foundation, NBC 4 New York is awarding $200,000 in grants to three local non-profit organizations in the Tri-State area to implement innovative community programs as part of a newly launched initiative called 21st Century Solutions.
The station has awarded one non-profit with a $100,000 grant and two others with $50,000 each. NBC 4 New York is among the ten NBC Owned Television Stations that are participating in the newly launched 21st Century Solutions program.
The grant recipients for New York non-profits include:
The Boys’ Club of New York $100,000
Computers for Youth Foundation $50,000
Job Path $50,000
Since 1876, The Boys’ Club of New York (BCNY) has offered New York’s young boys hope for a better future. Through its clubhouses and summer camp, BCNY builds boys into men of character with strong values, discipline, and a positive perspective. BCNY offers programs that help boys and young men stay in school and go on to college, discover their individual musical and artistic talent, develop healthy bodies, learn leadership skills, and just have fun.
CFY, a national nonprofit organization, helps students, teachers, and parents use digital learning to improve educational outcomes. CFY’s approach addresses the learning students do not only in their classrooms, but in all environments, including the home. The organization is unique in that it operates both “in the cloud” (through PowerMyLearning.com, a free K-12 online learning platform) and “on the ground” (through its Digital Learning Program, a whole school/community initiative that works hands-on with all three of the constituents that impact student achievement: teachers, parents, and students).
Job Path supports people with developmental disabilities as they make choices about their lives and play valued roles in their communities. Job Path encourages people to explore what they want out of life and to chart their own journeys providing the opportunities and support for them to succeed at paid and/or volunteer work, living in their own homes, and participating in community life. Job Path is a reflective organization where staff carefully listens to people and thoughtfully considers the implications of their decisions.
“We are excited to have partnered with NBCUniversal Foundation to support these innovative programs in New York,” said Michael Jack, President and General Manager of NBC 4 New York. “Our station is committed to supporting the non-profit organizations that make a difference in our local communities.”
Launched in June, the 21st Century Solutions program aims to help communities identify opportunities for positive change and support non-profits that are putting new ideas into action. The competitive grant program accepted applications throughout the summer in the 10 markets served by NBC-owned stations: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Francisco Bay Area, Washington, D.C., South Florida, San Diego and Connecticut.
21st Century Solutions supports high-impact, innovative programs in the categories of Arts and Media, Civic Engagement, Jobs and Economic Empowerment, Community Development, Technology and Innovation, Education and Environment.
