NBC Places First in Key Demo for 9th Week

NBC has tied for #1 in adult 18-49 rating for the primetime week of November 26-December 2, marking the ninth time in 10 weeks the network has ranked #1 or tied for #1 in 18-49 so far this season (and 12th time in 13 weeks overall). It's the first time in 10 years NBC has held a share of the lead for nine of the season's first 10 weeks.

NBC is up 13 percent in adults 18-49 versus the same week last year (with a 2.6 rating vs. a 2.3), up 10 percent in total viewers (8.0 million vs. 7.3 million) and up by double-digit percentages in all other key categories.

Season to date, NBC is #1 in 18-49, marking the first time the network has ranked #1 at the point in the season in nine years (since 2003). NBC is up 23 percent in adults 18-49 (with a 3.2 average rating versus last year's 2.6). In total viewers, NBC is up versus one year ago by 21 percent (8.9 million vs. 7.4 million). NBC is ahead of its year-ago season average by double-digit percentages in every key ratings category.

NBC is #1 season to date in adults 18-49, leading #2 CBS by a 14 percent margin (with a 3.2 rating vs. a 2.8). It's the biggest lead for any network at this point in the season in 10 years (since NBC led by 17 percent at this point in 2002).

NBC delivered three of the week's top seven primetime programs on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49. "Sunday Night Football" ranked #1 for the week in adults 18-49, Monday's "The Voice" was #4 and Tuesday's "Voice" was #7 (rankings exclude sports pre- and post-game shows). "Revolution" (tied for #16) was the #1 new drama of the week and "Go On" (tied for #29) was the #1 new comedy.

"Sunday Night Football" was the #1 primetime show of the week on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-34,18-49 and 25-54, total viewers, households, all key adult-male demos and teens 12-17.

For the season to date, NBC's schedule features four of primetime's top eight programs on the broadcast nets ("Sunday Night Football," #1; Monday's "The Voice," #4; Tuesday's "The Voice," tied for #6; and "Revolution" #8. NBC's schedule features the #1 show overall ("SNF"), the #1 new drama and #2 drama overall on the broadcast networks ("Revolution"), the #1 new comedy ("Go On") and #1 Friday series ("Grimm") (sports pre- and post-game shows are excluded from these rankings).

Primetime averages for the week of November 26-December 2 in adults 18-49 were: NBC, 2.6/7; CBS, 2.6/7; ABC, 2.1/6; Fox, 1.8/5; and CW, 0.6/2. In overall total viewers, the weekly averages were: CBS, 11.4 million; ABC, 8.0 million; NBC, 8.0 million; Fox, 5.2 million; and CW, 1.7 million.

Season to date averages through eight weeks are: NBC, 3.2/9; CBS, 2.8/8; ABC, 2.6/7; Fox, 2.4/7; and CW, 0.8/2. In overall total viewers, the season averages are: CBS, 11.7 million; ABC, 9.2 million; NBC, 8.9 million; Fox, 6.9 million; and CW, 1.9 million.


NBC highlights for the week of November 26-December 2
Monday: NBC finished #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox for the night in 18-49, winning six of six half-hours among those networks to give NBC 10 consecutive in-season Monday wins for the first time in the 25-year history of Nielsen's people meter sample.

"The Voice" (4.2 rating, 11 share in adults 18-49, 12.2 million viewers overall) grew week to week by 14 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 4.2 from a 3.7) and 15 percent or 1.6 million persons in total viewers (12.2 million vs. 10.6 million). "The Voice" delivered the #1 rating of the night in adults 18-49, making it Monday's top entertainment telecast for a 12th week in a row.

At 10:01 p.m. ET, "Revolution" (2.9/8 in adults 18-49, 8.5 million viewers overall) captured its highest 18-49 rating since October 29 and biggest overall audience since October 15. This week's "Revolution" jumped week to week by 12 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 2.9 rating from a 2.6), 13 percent in adults 25-54 (3.6 vs. 3.2) and 22 percent or 1.5 million persons in total viewers (8.5 million vs. 7.0 million), to rank #1 in the time period among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in every key demographic.

Tuesday: All four NBC Tuesday series delivered week-to-week gains, with "The Voice" (3.8/11 in 18-49, 11.6 million viewers overall) up 12 percent versus the prior week to score the #1 18-49 rating of the night. At 9 p.m. ET, "Go On" (2.5/6 in 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall) jumped 19 percent week to week in 18-49 to score its highest rating since October 9. "The New Normal" (1.7/4 in 18-49, 4.0 million in total viewers) grew 13 percent week to week and "Parenthood" (1.8/5 in 18-49, 4.5 million in total viewers) was up by 6 percent.

Wednesday: NBC got its second-highest Wednesday results of the season (behind only the night of a special Wednesday "Voice") from "Christmas In Rockefeller Center" (2.1/6 in 18-49, 9.1 million viewers overall) and "SNL Christmas" (2.7/7 in adults 18-49, 7.4 million viewers overall). "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" scored a four-year high in adults 18-49, delivering its highest rating since 2008 (2.2). "SNL Christmas" doubled NBC's average in the time period last season (2.7 vs. 1.3, "live plus same day" non-sports.

Thursday: "30 Rock" (1.3/4 in 18-49, 3.6 million viewers overall) earned its highest 18-49 rating since October 11 and its biggest overall viewership since March 15. It's the third-straight "30 Rock" to grow versus the prior Thursday telecast in total viewers.

Saturday: NBC's 33rd primetime telecast of the classic 1946 movie "It's a Wonderful Life" (0.8/3/4 in 18-49, 4.2 million viewers overall) delivered NBC's top Saturday total-viewer result this season and best for an in-season Saturday since January 21.

Sunday: NBC led Sunday night among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in all key categories: adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers and households with Eagles-Cowboys "Sunday Night Football" (7.4/18 in 18-49, 20.4 million viewers overall, 12.4/19 in households). It's the ninth time this season "Sunday Night Football" has topped 20.4 million viewers, the most through 13 weeks for "SNF" in the seven seasons it's aired on NBC.

Ratings reflect "live plus same day" data from Nielsen Media Research unless otherwise noted. Season-to-date figures are averages of "live plus seven day" data except for the two most recent weeks, which are "live plus same day."
