NBC's 2012 Pro Bowl is Second Most-Watched NFL All-Star Game Since 2001

Led this week by Sunday's telecast of the 2012 NFL Pro Bowl, NBC averaged a 1.8 rating, 5 share in adults 18-49 and 6.1 million viewers overall for the week of January 23-29, according to in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research. For the week, NBC ranked #2 among the broadcast networks in adults and men 18-34 and men 18-49, while finishing #3 in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers.

NBC's Sunday primetime telecast of the 2012 NFL Pro Bowl, in which the American Football Conference defeated the National Football Conference 59-41, ranked #4 among all primetime programs this week in the key demographic of adults 18-49 and it was the #1 telecast of the week in men 18-49 and men 18-34. With an average 12.5 million viewers, the Pro Bowl ranked #8 among primetime programs this week by that measure.

Primetime averages for the week of January 23-29 in adults 18-49 were Fox (3.0/8), CBS (2.0/6), NBC (1.8/5), ABC (1.6/4) and CW (0.5/1). In overall total viewers the weekly averages were CBS (9.3 million), Fox (8.0 million), NBC (6.1 million), ABC (5.7 million) and CW (1.1 million).

NBC highlights for the week of January 23-29:

* On Sunday, NBC Sports' coverage of the 2012 NFL AFC-NFC Pro Bowl propelled the network to a primetime win in virtually all key measures, including adults, men and women 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and total viewers. NBC topped its closest primetime rival Sunday night by 91 percent in 18-49 rating.

* With an average12.5 million viewers, NBC's telecast of the 2012 NFL Pro Bowl ranks as the second most-watched NFL All-Star game since 2001, behind only last year's game.

* On Friday, the penultimate episode of "Chuck" in the 8 p.m. ET hour delivered NBC's top 18-49 and total-viewer results of the season in that slot.

* Also on Friday, the series finale of "Chuck," airing in the 9 p.m. ET hour, scored season highs for the show in adults 18-49 and total viewers. "Chuck" ranked #2 in the hour among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, tied for #1 in men 18-49 and was #1 outright in men 25-54.

* On Tuesday, "The Biggest Loser 13" tied for #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49 and was #2 outright in adults 18-34 and all key adult-female demographics.

* NBC ranked #2 Tuesday night among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49, adults 18-34 and other key demos.

* On Monday, "Who's Still Standing?" scored its highest 18-49 rating in five Monday telecasts to date and delivered its biggest overall viewership to date in eight telecasts on all nights of the week.

* Additionally on Monday, "The NBC News Republican Candidates Debate on a Special Edition of Rock Center" reported the highest 18-49 rating and biggest overall viewership to date for any edition of "Rock Center."

Ratings reflect "live plus same day" data unless otherwise noted. Season-to-date figures are averages of "live plus seven day" data except for the two most recent weeks, which are "live plus same day."

Additional NBC highlights for the week of January 23-29:

On Monday, January 23 from 8-9 p.m. ET, "Who's Still Standing?" (1.7 rating, 4 share in adults 18-49, 6.4 million viewers overall) scored its highest 18-49 rating in five Monday telecasts to date and its biggest overall viewership in eight telecasts on all nights of the week. "Who's Still Standing?" was up 25 percent in total viewers versus NBC's average in the time period this season prior to "Who's Still Standing?"(6.439 million vs. 5.151 million).

Versus its prior telecast on Monday, January 9, "Who's Still Standing?" was up 6 percent in 18-49 rating (1.7 vs. 1.6) and 4 percent in total viewers (6.439 million vs. 6.168 million). Versus the telecast before that on January 2, this week's "Who's Still Standing?" was up 13 percent in 18-49 rating (1.7 vs. 1.5) and 16 percent in total viewers (6.439 million vs. 5.556 million).

For an eighth consecutive telecast, "Who's Still Standing?" exhibited significant growth from its first half-hour to its second, gaining 13 percent from half-hour to half-hour in both adults 18-49 (to a 1.8 rating from a 1.6) and total viewers (6.818 million vs. 6.059 million).

Monday from 9-11 p.m. ET, "The NBC News Republican Candidates Debate on a Special Edition of Rock Center" (1.6/4 in 18-49, 7.1 million viewers overall) reported the strongest results in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 (a 2.1 rating) and total viewers for any "Rock Center" edition to date, topping the prior highs earned one week earlier (1.3 in adults 18-49, 1.8 in adults 25-54 and 5.566 million viewers overall).

For its second hour from 10-11 p.m. ET, "Rock Center" tied for #2 among the broadcast networks in adults 18-49, ranked #2 outright in total viewers and was #1 in all key adult-male demographics - men 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54. For the 10-11 p.m. hour, "Rock Center" matched NBC's season high in adults 18-49 (a 1.6 rating) and hit a new season high in total viewers (6.971 million).

On Tuesday, January 24 from 8-9 p.m. ET, "The Biggest Loser 13" (2.1/6 in 18-49, 6.4 million viewers overall) tied for #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49 and was #2 outright in adults 18-34 and all key adult-female demographics - women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54.

On Tuesday, NBC's coverage of the State of the Union Address ran from 9-10:16 p.m. ET, followed by the Republican response and segments of analysis that extended to 11 p.m. ET. Coverage of the State of the Union Address was sustaining and is not included in the nightly or weekly averages. From 10:16-10:28 p.m. ET, State of the Union analysis averaged a 1.9/5 in adults 18-49, a 2.5/6 in adults 25-54 and 7.5 million viewers overall. From 10:40-11 p.m. ET, additional State of the Union analysis averaged a 1.2/3 in 18-49, a 1.6/4 in 25-54 and 5.3 million viewers overall.

NBC ranked #2 on Tuesday night among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49, adults 18-34 and other key demos.

On Wednesday, January 25 from 8-8:30 p.m. ET, "Whitney" averaged a 1.4/4 in 18-49 and 4.4 million viewers overall. Despite airing against tough competition that included Fox's "American Idol," "Whitney" was up 8 percent in 18-49 rating versus NBC's average in this time period last season (1.4 vs. 1.3, "live plus same day") and 8 percent versus NBC's results in the time period on the same night last year (1.4 vs. 1.3). It's worth noting that so far this season, first-run Thursday telecasts of "Whitney" have been adding on average 34 percent to their next-day "live plus same day" ratings when Nielsen issues "live plus seven day" results.
