NY Philharmonic's CONCERT FOR NY to Be Broadcast on PBS, 9/10

The New York Philharmonic's A Concert for New York, a free performance led by Music Director Alan Gilbert of Mahler's Symphony No. 2, Resurrection, given in remembrance and renewal on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001, will be telecast in the U.S. on Sunday, September 11, 2011, on PBS's Great Performances at 9:00 p.m. [check local listings], on ARTE at 6:15 p.m., CET,  Germany and France, and on major television channels in Brazil, Czech Republic, Latvia and Switzerland, Austria, among other European countries, as well in Asia. The concert will also be Webcast on nyphil.org at 9:00 p.m., ET, on September 11.

A Concert for New York will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in October 2011 by ACCENTUS Music. The recording will be distributed in the U.S. by Naxos of America.

As previously announced, the concert will also be broadcast live on Saturday, September 10 on 105.9 Classical WQXR, and will be repeated September 11 on WNYC 93.9 FM at 8:00 p.m., and will also be heard at a future date on The New York Philharmonic This Week, the Philharmonic's national and international radio concert series.

A Concert for New York, which features soprano Dorothea Röschmann, mezzo- soprano Michelle DeYoung, and the New York Choral Artists - takes place at Avery Fisher Hall on Saturday, September 10, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. and will be projected onto a large screen on Josie Robertson Plaza. It is being produced by the New York Philharmonic and ACCENTUS Music in Co-Production with ZDF/ARTE and Thirteen/WNET.

In September 2011 Alan Gilbert becomes Director of Conducting and Orchestral Studies at The Juilliard School, where he is also the first to hold the William Schuman Chair in Musical Studies. Conductor Laureate of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of Hamburg's NDR Symphony Orchestra, he regularly conducts leading orchestras internationally, such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Alan Gilbert made his acclaimed Metropolitan Opera debut in November 2008 leading John Adams's Doctor Atomic. His recordings have been nominated for Grammy Awards and received top honors from the Chicago Tribune and Gramophone magazine. He studied at Harvard University, The Curtis Institute of Music, and The Juilliard School, and served as the assistant conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra (1995-97). In May 2010 Mr. Gilbert received an Honorary Doctor of Music degree from The Curtis Institute of Music.
