Parent's Television Council Calls for End to Oxygen's ALL MY BABIES' MAMAS

The Parents Television Council is joining with other groups and individuals across the country calling for the Oxygen cable network to cease any further development of the television program, ALL MY BABIES MAMAS. The program features rapper Shawty Lo and the eleven children he has fathered with ten different women. A petition calling for the Comcast/NBCUniversal network to cease any further development of this television project was launched by Sabrina Lamb at Change.org. PTC President Tim Winter issued the following statement:

"Every time we think that the television industry couldn't stoop any lower, sadly one of the networks steps forward to prove us wrong. This new project in development at Oxygen is grotesquely irresponsible and exploitive, and we urge the network to cease any further work on it immediately," said PTC President Tim Winter.

"We are asking our members to take action and let Oxygen know that this program would undermine children and families. If Oxygen moves forward with the program, we will be contacting every corporate sponsor that buys advertising time on the Oxygen network to hold them accountable as well.

"Every cable subscriber in the nation should be allowed to pick up the phone and call their cable company to demand that Oxygen be removed from their programming lineup. But because Oxygen is owned by the cable behemoths Comcast and NBCUniversal, every cable subscriber is forced to take - and to pay for - Oxygen as part of a bundle of cable networks, whether they want it or not.

"The PTC is proud to join its voice with a growing chorus of groups and individuals across America who are concerned about the harmful and exploitive messaging of this television project," concluded Winter.

The Parents Television Council (www.parentstv.org) is a non-partisan education organization advocating responsible entertainment. It was founded in 1995 to ensure that children are not constantly assaulted by sex, violence and profanity on television and in other media. This national grassroots organization has more than 1.3 million members and 56 chapters across the United States, and works with television producers, broadcasters, networks and sponsors in an effort to stem the flow of harmful and negative messages targeted to children. The PTC also works with elected and appointed government officials to enforce broadcast decency standards. Most importantly, the PTC produces critical research and publications documenting the dramatic increase in sex, violence and profanity in entertainment. This information is provided free of charge so parents can make informed viewing choices for their own families.
