Actress Audra McDonald, star of Broadway's PORGY AND BESS appeared yesterday on the ABC talk show, "The View." The Gershwins' PORGY AND BESS officially opened on Thursday, January 12th, 2012 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. The cast led by four-time Tony Award winner McDonald as Bess, Drama Desk nominee Norm Lewis (Les Misérables, Sondheim on Sondheim) as Porgy and two-time Tony nominee David Alan Grier (Race, "In Living Color") as Sporting Life. On the morning talk show, McDonald and Lewis performed a number from the show.
Audra McDonald received her four Tony Awards for her performances in Carousel, Master Class, A Raisin in the Sun and Ragtime. McDonald appeared as Lizzie in the Roundabout Theatre Company's 2007 revival of 110 in the Shade, directed by Lonny Price at Studio 54, for which she shared the Drama Desk Award for Best Actress in a Musical with Donna Murphy.
