SKYFALL co-writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have reportedly signed on to pen the script for Gaumont Intl. Television's upcoming smallscreen BARBARELLA series, the pair announced today. DRIVE director Nicolas Winding Refn was tapped last year to direct."I'm excited for the opportunity to reinvent 'Barbarella' with my friends at Gaumont and Martha De Laurentiis," Refn told Variety in 2012. "And I look forward to bringing this unique character to life for a new generation of fans as I believe she is one of the ultimate counter-cultural characters."
BARBARELLA is based upon Jean-Claude Forest's comic book character from 1962, which later inspired the film starring Jane Fonda in 1968.
Refn and De Laurentiis will executive produce alongside Julien Forest and Jean-Marc Lofficier as co-executive producers.
Gaumont and De Laurentiis have recently partnered for NBC's upcoming series HANNIBAL.
