Singer-songwriter John Mayer admits he was a "jerk" when talking about past relationships and tells Anthony Mason he's a changed man in an interview for CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD to be broadcast today, Feb. 10, 2013 (9:00 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.
Mayer talks with Mason about the trauma of losing his voice due to a lesion on his vocal cords, his surgery and ongoing recovery, which includes getting injections through his neck. CBS SUNDAY MORNING was there during Mayer's dramatic return to the concert stage to sing for the first time in two years.
An accomplished performer, Mayer is equally as known for his frank performances during interviews. In 2010, he made headlines for referring to former girlfriend Jessica Simpson as "sexual napalm" in an interview.
"I was just a jerk," he tells Mason, adding he's now changed.
"It's very liberating when you finally realize it's impossible to make everyone like you," he says, adding. "I wanted everybody to like me. I thought I was one shuck and jive away in every direction."
Mayer says dealing with the fallout from the bad interviews was harder than not being able to sing. Mayer also talks about his current relationship with pop star Katy Perry and reentering the music field after being away for two years.
Mason's interview with Mayer will be broadcast today, Feb. 10, 2013 on CBS SUNDAY MORNING (9:00 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network. Rand Morrison is the executive producer.
