Theater chroniclers Jesse Green of New York Magazine, Michael Musto of The Village Voice, and critic Adam Feldman of Time Out New York join series hosts Michael Riedel of the New York Post and producer Susan Haskins for an overview of the upcoming Broadway and off-Broadway seasons on the latest edition of THEATER TALK.
THEATER TALK – Fall 2012 Season Preview will premiere at 1 a.m. today, October 19 (2012; early Saturday morning) on Thirteen/PBS, followed in New York City on CUNY TV* Saturday at 8:30 pm, Sunday at 12:30 pm, and Monday at 7:30 am, 1:30 pm, and 7:30 pm.
"Stephen Sondheim can't get a new musical on Broadway, but Kathie Lee Gifford can," quips Michael Musto – and it's off to the races with THEATER TALK's barbs for the coming New York theatrical season. The big story is the scuttled production of the musical of Daphne Du Maurier's REBECCA, undercapitalized due to the alleged death – by malaria, no less – of a mysterious investor who may never have existed. The insiders also discuss the anticipated revival of Annie, and the plethora of play revivals to come. All seem to agree that the most exciting work this fall will be off-Broadway, and they wonder if any of the hits will transfer to Broadway in the current economic climate. In addition, excerpts are read aloud from Arthur Laurents' posthumous final memoir, THE REST OF THE STORY– parts having to do with Jesse Green (hearing them for the first time) and the gossip backstage at THEATER TALK. The season begins, smartly and tartly!
