Playwright Theresa Rebeck is penning the script for the one-hour series, with executive producers John Wells and Andrew Stearn.

FORTUNE, set in present day, follows an illustrious New York family squabbling over an inheritance after the sudden and mysterious death of its patriarch.

The most recent adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic was in 2005 for the BBC. The TV series ran for 15 episodes and starred Gillian Anderson, Denis Lawson, Charles Dance and Carey Mulligan. Prior to that, the BBC adapted the story in 1985 and 1959.

Rebeck is known for her plays View of the Dome, Our House, Seminar, Motherhood Out Loud, The 24 Hour Plays 2007, The Understudy, Dead Accounts, Mauritius, Ominium Gathering, The Scene, and more. She has written for NBC's SMASH, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, NYPD Blue, Dream On and more.
