According to an unnamed source over at ContactMusic.com, South Park and multi-Tony Award-winning THE BOOK OF MORMON creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone may very well have their next subject for musicalization decided upon: Scientology.

While the source only revealed that the creators have begun preliminary work on the new piece, the concept itself seems a surefire, ideal fit for the continually button-pushing and controversy-courting cohorts.

Previously, Parker and Stone created the musical film CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL, in addition to the Marc Shaiman movie musical collaboration SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER & UNCUT as well as TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE (which famously featured a RENT parody and other musical sequences), prior to the mega-hit BOOK OF MORMON, which won nine Tony Awards in 2011, including Best Musical.

As for the new show: THE BOOK OF SCIENTOLOGY, perhaps?

If South Park could conjure up "What Would Brian Boitano Do?" then perhaps "What Would Tom Cruise Do?" could make its way into this given his famous alignment with the church. Anything can happen in a Parker/Stone show, after all!

What are your thoughts on the South Park creators taking on yet another religious institution with their next project, if this very early report turns out indeed to be true?
