VIDEO: CA Lt. Gov. Newsom Talks Killer Manhunt on CBS THIS MORNING

California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom said the manhunt for alleged killer Christopher Dorner has "had a chilling effect all across law enforcement up and down the state of California" in an interview that was broadcast live today, February 11, 2013, on CBS THIS MORNING on the CBS Television Network (7:00 AM - 9:00 AM). Newsom also discussed the need for government to transition to the digital era as outlined in his book "Citizenville," and praised California Gov. Edmund Brown for making fiscal cuts, "the likes of which most big Republican legislators would never make."

Below are excerpts from the interview:

KING: Gavin Newsom is a businessman and the author of a new book, "How to take a new town digital and reinvent the government." The youngest man elected to that office in more than a century. Hello, Gavin. We're going to talk about your book in just a second, but I want to talk about Mr. Dorner who is still on the loose. The reward is now a million dollars. What can you tell us about the efforts to find him?

NEWSOM: I mean it's remarkable how it's had a chilling effect all across law enforcement up and down the state of California, not just in Southern California. And the million dollars may seem excessive because I don't think there's ever been a reward this high, but at the end of the day consider how much is being spent right now on investigators patrolling not only the streets but making sure those 50 families are secure, a lot of them had to relocate, etc. I mean, they're in essence on a tactical, modified alert down in Los Angeles which means most day-to-day calls are not being met to make sure that we find this guy. So it's a chilling moment. There's a lot of fear out there, and when it comes to law enforcement and the Community and the family that is law enforcement, this is serious business.
