VIDEO: Former Sec. of State Albright Talks Iranian Sanctions on 'THIS MORNING'

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said that sanctions against Iran are working because "we hear an awful lot about problems within the Iranian economy," in an interview with Charlie Rose and Gayle King that was broadcast today, Feb. 19, 2013 on CBS THIS MORNING on the CBS Television Network (7:00 AM-9:00 AM). Albright also discussed reports that the Obama administration is reconsidering arming Syrian rebels, saying that "I do think it's also correct to keep looking at these decisions because the situation changes," and touched on what it was like leaving office.

Below are excerpts from the interview:

ROSE: The New York Times reports that there is a possibility that the Obama administration will reconsider its past decisions not to arm the rebels. Is that the right move at this time?

ALBRIGHT: Well, Charlie, I think the important part always is to follow whatever is going on and decide what the best thing to do is. I know when we were in office, you look at an issue, you make a decision, it's a rolling decision. But I think they're watching it very, very carefully. And what has been amazing is the amount of aid that the U.S. government has given to Syria, non-lethal aid.

ROSE: Non-lethal aid. But the question is, was it the right decision not to arm them earlier?

ALBRIGHT: I think it was. I think it was done very carefully with the idea that there are a lot of arms in there. But I do think it's also correct to keep looking at these decisions because the situation changes. I think it's great - I don't know exactly where Secretary Kerry is going, but obviously he knows a great deal about the subject, and his views will be very, very important in all of this.

KING: Did you get a kick out of John Kerry saying had very large heels to fill?

ALBRIGHT: I have to say, he stole my line, because when I became Secretary of State I said I hope my heels fill Warren Christopher's shoes. So we go back and forth on that.
