Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said President Obama always seems to be "campaign mode" and treats the other party like "the enemy," in an interview that was broadcast live today, Feb. 13, on CBS THIS MORNING (7:00-9:00 AM) on the CBS Television Network. Watch the appearance in its entirety below.
Ryan also told co-hosts Charlie Rose, Gayle King and Norah O'Donnell he believes there will be a sequester. The former candidate for vice president also talked about his own political future, saying, "I'm more focused on policy and outcome than some political promotion."
Below are excerpts from the interview.
ROSE: Republican Congressman Paul Ryan chairs a House Budget Committee and was in the audience of last night's address. Congressman, good morning. The President just listed what would happen if, in fact, a sequester takes place? There are automatic cuts. Do I hear you saying that you believe that's what is going to happen?
RYAN: Well, I was simply predicting. The reason is the President hasn't put a budget on the table. The Senate hasn't passed a budget in four years. We've been passing budgets. We passed two bills to prevent the sequester by cutting government spending in other places that we think were smart cuts. So don't forget, Charlie, it's the President who first proposed the sequester. It's the president who designed the sequester, as it is now designed. And it's the House who twice has passed legislation replacing the sequester. So because the Senate has not acted, because the President has not yet put a proposal on the table, that is why I think the sequester will occur.
