CBS SUNDAY MORNING, CBS, previews & teasers
Critically acclaimed singer Aaron Neville describes his voice as a reflection of his life, the good and the bad, in a wide-ranging interview to be broadcast on CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD, March 3, 2013 (9:00 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network. Get a sneak peek below!
Known for his years with The Neville Brothers as well as hits including "Don't Know Much" and "Tell It Like It Is," Neville tells Anthony Mason his voice is a "mixture of my innocence in the projects. My mom and dad. It's all the good and the bad." Neville adds his voice includes "all the laughs and frowns that I went through and seen other people go through."
Well-known music producer Don Was argues Neville is one of the greatest singers of all time. "It's just a really sweet voice, but it's not just the sweetness is the thing," says Was, who produced Neville's latest CD. "It's like French cooking. You've got a few flavors going on at once. There's definitely this sweet creamy overtone to the thing, but it's deeply soulful."
Neville talks with Mason about his new CD, a collection of songs he grew up singing as a teenager in New Orleans, the death of his wife of 48 years, his new wife and the impact of movies on his development. He also recalls writing his first song while being locked up in the New Orleans Parish Prison after being busted for joyriding and the first time he heard his song on the radio.
"It was like magic," Neville says. "And then I would hear it every five minutes on the radio, 'Here's that lullaby by Aaron Neville again...Oh, I'd just swell up inside."
Mason's interview with Neville will be broadcast March 3, 2013 on CBS SUNDAY MORNING on the CBS Television Network. Rand Morrison is the executive producer.
