VOICE OVER: Week 7 of The Voice Reveals Powerhouse Battle Rounds!

Night five of the Battle Rounds on NBC's The Voice tonight showed that dreams do come true.  Every single one of the contestants tonight had something to prove, and whether for themselves personally, or for family, they gave these performances all they had. Performers from Teams Christina Aguilera (and adviser Billy Joe Armstrong), CeeLo Green (and Rob Thomas), and Adam Levine (along with Mary J. Blige) performed tonight, while no full battles from Team Blake were shown. Nonetheless, there were some great tear-jerking moments tonight, naturally.

Coach CeeLo chose Adam Lambert’s “Whataya Want from Me,” for his mentees Alexis Marceaux and Daniel Rosa, whom he called “indie” and “unique sounding.” Whereas Alexis struggled because she kept over-articulating, Rob said that Daniel had a lot of confidence issues. In their final rehearsal, they were both nervous, but especially Alexis, because she felt disadvantaged since Daniel had been on the show before. But they made sure to leave everything they had on the stage. They both made it their own so much, that by the second verse, it seemed like a contest to see who could do the most variations on the tune. All of the coaches were complimentary of them, but with the big decision in CeeLo’s hands, he started out as usual by saying how proud he was of his team. “Alexis has been classically trained, but Daniel has a little flaw. And I connect with him, because I have a flaw too. I’m going with Daniel.”

Brandon Mahone and Nicole Nelson represented Team Adam singing Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s powerful duet, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” A fairly green Brandon seemed intimidated by his experienced competitor because, “I see no weaknesses in Nicole, and it makes me nervous.” But Nicole was very sweet and almost nurturing to Brandon, saying, It feels like I have an advantage, because I’ve done this for years. But he’s talented. I just might go out there and choke, and he’ll just kill it.” They sounded absolutely awesome in their last rehearsal with their coach. Adam said, “I think Brandon’s very prepared for this. Nicole has a gift far beyond what most people have, but she has to work on overdoing it.” Though it didn’t seem possible, they were even better in the performance. Their vocals were absolutely astounding, and it was obvious that no one envied CeeLo who had to choose which incredible singer to send home “You guys did such a good job. Brandon, the confidence I saw warmed my heart. Nicole, I wanted to hear a contained, slightly different version of you. I believe in both of you so much. I have to say the winner of this battle is Nicole.”

Though a few battles were not aired on NBC, Loren Allred, Cassadee Pope, and Joe Kirkland won and are moving on to the Knock-Out Rounds.

The last battle of the night was between two awesome girls on Team Christina, Devyn DeLoera and Marissaann. They sang, "Free Your Mind," because Christina said, "I wanted to give them a song that’s a playground of activity to really roar.” And rest assured, these girls did just that. Although, Devyn admitted to being shy, which she knew she had to get over it, and Marissaann was worried about figuring out how to get people to really notice and remember her. Christina advised the latter to tell her story of pain through the song, because through that, she could touch the world. As they were getting in their last minutes of rehearsal the day before the performance, Devyn was all over the place with her impeccable range and power. Her coach reminded her to keep doing that, but to choose her moments rather than let them proliferate. Their performance was amazing, forcing a very tough decision on Christina. Adam liked Devyn the best, essentially saying that 15-year-old Marissaann was so young, that she could go about her career anytime. On the other end, CeeLo and Blake picked Marissaann because it was amazing that at such a young age she could be that awesome, and she could only get better. A reluctant Christina had to choose the winner, so after assuring them both of their superstar status in her mind, she chose Devyn. As Marissaann started her farewell speech, Blake glanced at the red button, then just yelled, “I like Marissaann!” using his final steal for her. On Twitter, Blake said, “I couldn't stand to see that one go - had to #steal her. What a performance! Welcome to #TeamBlake #TheVoice.”
