 For the week of February 11, 2013, "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" averaged 8.33 million Total Viewers and a 1.9 rating/8 share/2.22 million in Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.
For the 3rd week running, "World News" posted year-to-year improvement in both Total Viewers (+4%) and Adults 25-54 (+5%) - 8.00 million and 2.11 million, respectively, on w/o 2/13/12. Further, "World News" has increased its audience compared to the same week last year in Total Viewers for the last 8 weeks. Additionally, "World News" was the only evening newscast to build on its year-ago performance in both measures as "CBS Evening News" was mixed (+5%/-2%) and "NBC Nightly News" was down (-4%/-11%).
On Monday (2/11/13), "World News" turned in its most-watched telecast of the season and 2nd-best in Adults 25-54 (9.09 million and 2.52 million, respectively - regular telecast).
Week-to-week, "World News" cut its gaps with "NBC Nightly News" by high double-digits among both Total Viewers (-35% - 661,000 vs. 1.01 million) and Adults 25-54 (-49% - 161,000 vs. 315,000). In fact, the ABC evening news posted its smallest news demo margin with "Nightly News" in 7 months - since w/o 7/16/12.
"World News" slashed its margins with "NBC Nightly News" on the year-ago week by more than half in both Total Viewers (-53% - 661,000 vs. 1.41 million) and Adults 25-54 (-72% - 161,000 vs. 577,000).
Season-to-date, "World News" has increased its Total Viewing audience (+2%, 8.08 million vs. 7.90 million) compared to thesame point last season, drawing its most-watched season in 3 years - since the 2009-10 season. For the 2nd year in a row, "World News" narrowed its margins in both Total Viewers (-23%) and Adults 25-54 (-3%) with "NBC Nightly News" to post its smallest gaps (791,000 and 348,000, respectively) with the NBC program in 4 years- since the 2008-09 season.
For the week "ABC World News" bettered "CBS Evening News" by 1.13 million Total Viewers and by 121,000 Adults 25-54.
Note: Due to the State of the Union Address on Tues (2/12), "World News" was retitled "Wrld News Tonite" and was excluded from the average. ABC's weekly average is based on four days (Mon, Wed-Fri), while NBC's and CBS' weekly averages are based on five days.
