Ellen Holly, the first Black person to have a lead role in daytime television, has passed away at 92. She was a theater actress, starred on Broadway, and was a published author. Her autobiography detailed her career and her historic Black family.

The Public Theater has revealed the 10 new playwrights have been selected for the 2023-2025 Emerging Writers Group.

Rorschach Theatre proudly announces the first annual MAGIC IN ROUGH SPACES readings, developing and presenting three new plays of American magical realism. Following a nationwide search, selected playwrights will spend three days next month in Washington working with local directors, designers, dramaturgs and actors. Babes With Blades Theatre Company (BWBTC) continues its 20th Anniversary Season: Origins with the Chicago premiere of The Good Fight, playing at City Lit Theater, 1020 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., January 6 February 17, 2018. Developed in 2011 through BWBTC's Fighting Words program under the title Deeds Not Words, the play is written by Anne Bertram, executive director of Theatre Unbound, a Minneapolis/St. Paul company devoted to work by and about women. Elizabeth Lovelady, a Jeff Award-winning artist based in Chicago, directs The Good Fight, which features combat by Violence Designer Gaby Labotka with Assistant Violence Designer Almanya Narula.

Spot On Company debuts the World Premiere of 'Blue Over You' (A Mysterious One-Man Love Story with Musical Bits) written by Daniel Noonan and directed by Sarah Whitney, co-founders of Spot On Company. Chicago theater favorite Michael Joseph Mitchell stars in the company's fledgling production.
