Rejoicer has announced a new album, Spiritual Sleaze, out February 14th on Stones Throw Records. Today Rejoicer shares the second single from the album, “Pre Memory Circle”, which comes with distinctive artwork from long-time visual collaborator Jengo whose artwork for the album was made to resemble alien rocks, coal from a different planet, or lucky stones — items of obscure natural origin that, much like Rejoicer's music, leave meaning wide open to interpretation.

Woodie King's New Federal Theatre has set four plays for the June, 2019 edition of its Annual Ntozake Shange Readings Series. The series will run four Tuesdays--June 4, 11, 18 and 25--with all readings at Castillo Theatre, 543 W 42nd Street.

Woodie King's New Federal Theatre has dedicated its November Readings Series to the memory of the late playwright Ntozake Shange, who died October 27.  The series, now in progress, has been retitled 'Ntozake Shange November Reading Series 2018.'  It runs from November 8 to 18, with readings of eight plays at Castillo Theatre, 543 W 42nd Street. 

From November 8 to 18, Woodie King Jr.'s New Federal Theatre will present 'The November Readings Series,' with readings of eight plays at Castillo Theatre, 543 W 42nd Street.  This series is devoted to brilliant one- and two-character plays, a dramatic form that most theaters neglect.  It will be used to develop African-American writers and to select plays that New Federal Theatre may present as full productions in its 2019-20 season.  The lineup includes works by Trevor Rhone, Howard Craft, Edgar Nkosi White, J.E. Meredith Roberts, a well-regarded leader in animation for film and television, has been named to the newly created role of senior vice president, Animation Strategy, Disney Channels. She will be responsible for leading a unified vision for the animation content produced by Disney Television Animation and other studios for Disney Junior, Disney Channel, Disney XD and related platforms. Roberts will report to Nancy Kanter, executive vice president, Content and Creative Strategy, Disney Channels Worldwide, and general manager, Disney Junior Worldwide.

Disney Channel has ordered a second season of animated comedy-adventure series 'Big City Greens,' about a mischievous and optimistic country boy who moves to the big city with his wildly out of place family, ahead of its series debut, MONDAY, JUNE 18 (9:30 a.m. EDT/PDT), on Disney Channel, DisneyNOW and Disney Channel VOD. The series hails from comic book creators and brothers Chris and Shane Houghton ('Harvey Beaks') and influenced by their childhood growing up in the small rural town of St. Johns, Michigan, with many of the locations and characters inspired by their real-life family members and townsfolk.

Disney Channel has ordered two original animated series - 'Amphibia,' from Annie Award-winning director Matt Braly (Disney's 'Gravity Falls'), and 'The Owl House,' from Dana Terrace, one of Variety's '10 Animators to Watch,' whose credits include Disney's 'DuckTales' and 'Gravity Falls.' Both series, slated to premiere in 2019, are produced by award-winning Disney Television Animation (TVA). The announcement was made today by Eric Coleman, senior vice president, Original Programming and general manager, Disney Television Animation.

'Upstairs: The Musical' by Wayne Self, based on 'The UpStairs Lounge Arson,' the award-winning history by Clayton Delery, is coming to Pride Arts Center this fall. The show first previewed in New Orleans, La., in 2013 to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the UpStairs Lounge Fire.

The historic Theatre Training Workshops of Woodie King, Jr.'s New Federal Theatre will move uptown next month to Dwyer Cultural Center at 258 St. Nicholas Ave. (at 123rd Street).  They were previously held in spaces adjoining the theater's offices at 292 Henry Street.  The workshops have been a fertile training ground for leading African-American playwrights and actors.
